FAQ

1. Do I need certification if I charter bareboat?
Throughout European countries a sailing license such as the International certificate of Competence (ICC) or equivalent is required for bareboat . In Greece the laws are very strict regarding bareboat sailing.
If you do not qualify to charter bareboat, we highly recommend you still do the charter but hire a skipper. Most skippers are wonderful and add to the holiday, while also letting you relax when you want to!

2. Does my charter need to be a week long?
Yes. In Lenco yachts we charter for minimum one week, Saturday to Saturday. You are of course free to be back whenever you like, but the charge will still be for a week. Your mooring at the Marina Gouvia will be free of charge if you decide to leave later or come back earlier.

3. Can I anchor anywhere?
Nights at sea create a sense of adventure and can be calmer than those spent in a busy harbor. Before anchoring, be aware of the weather and sea bed conditions in the area. You should also have knowledge and experience of anchoring. Most places where it is unsafe to anchor will be marked on local maps, including conservation areas and shipping lanes.

4. What is the difference between the harbor and a place to anchor?
The harbor is a secure place to take a break from sailing. At the harbor you can find cleaning, mending, waste disposal and tank filling services. Anchorage is a maneuver where you drop anchor to persevere weather conditions or take in the scenery.

5. What should I do if there is something wrong with the boat?
Immediately call us. We will contact the right people who will correct any faults straight away.

6. What happens at check-in?
Upon arrival one of us will escort you to your boat. We will explain important rules and procedures regarding the power supply and the fuel and wastewater tanks. You should check that the boat has all the features agreed in the contract. You should also check that all the necessary safety items are on board such as distress signals, safety rafts, maps and charts. It is important to make sure that everything is in working order before beginning your journey.

7. What do I need to pack and bring for the yacht chartering vacation?
As with most holidays or vacations the general rule is: the least baggage you have the better. This truism is no different for yacht chartering vacations or holidays. To help you pack, just imagine what it is that you are going to be doing while on your particular charter. Some of the time you may be swimming or sunbathing – other times you might be dining in a great seafood restaurant.

Some items which are worth considering are: light summer clothing such as shorts, tops, skirts, sun hats or caps, sandals, trainers or sneakers or soft soled athletic shoes, bathing and swim suites and warmer clothing for night wear such as sweatshirt, sweater, windbreaker, jeans, light pants. You may want to go out dining and socializing in the evening so some more “smart casual” clothing.

Remember to bring any personal items such as passports as well as medication or personal sport equipment. Sun protection products are essential!
Softer luggage is ideal for fitting into cabin lockers and is generally more practical on a yacht.

8. What happens if the charter is cancelled?
In the event of cancellation of the charter by the Charterer after signing the Agreement, all advance payments made up the date of cancellation will be retained by the owner, and the owner reserves the right to refund the said deposits only if he succeeds in letting the yacht to another Charterer for the same period and under the same conditions.

9. What is the role of a skipper?
The skipper will sail and navigate your crew throughout the week, taking you to all the hidden gems along the route. The skipper’s priority is your safety, and after that, to ensure you have the very best experience. Your skipper will show you the ropes if you’re willing to learn, and be a pretty cool friend for the week. Friends need to be fed so the onus is on you to both prepare and sponsor meals for your skipper.
