Paxos and Antipaxos

The enormous bay of Lakka is popular for those looking for a comfortable anchorage.

The little port of Gaios, the capital of Paxos, is unique in the Ionian, invisible until you reach the end of the ‘fjord’ formed by the islet of Agios Nikolaos in front of it.

Mongonissi, in the south, with its’ large sheltered bay offers peace and tranquility as a refreshing alternative to the bigger villages to the north.

Antipaxos , a tiny uninhabited island south of Paxos, is the jewel of the Ionian. Voutoumi beach has to offer a stunning anchorage as well as some of the clearest water you’ll ever find and a beach that’s hard to match! It is a must visit!

Lefkas

Check out the island’s marina, one of the largest and best organized in Greece, with a capacity of 600 yachts. Westward to Lefkas, which forms a kind of inland sea with the mainland opposite, is dotted with tiny islands like Skorpios and Madouri. This east coast is extremely popular with sailors and has the advantage of being protected from the occasional strong westerlies. Vasiliki and Nydri both offer safe anchorages and well equipped marinas.

At Aktion, at the mouth of the Amvracian Gulf in the Greek mainland, you can stay overnight at Kleopatra marina, near Preveza.

Meganissi

The beautiful Ionian Island of Meganissi offers complete relaxation in a typically Greek atmosphere. Although it is small enough to explore in a day there is plenty on the island to keep you entertained; the enclosed anchorages on the east side which are great for snorkelling, the ‘capital’ Vathi with its excellent fish tavernas and the breathtakingly beautiful Spartochori on top of the island offering breath taking views and a sleepy charm. Recently voted one of Europe’s 18 best secret islands in the Telegraph’s Travel section!

Kastos

The tiny island of Kastos has numerous anchorages with sandy beaches and rocky areas to explore with your snorkel. This stunningly beautiful island has a tiny population of around 200 people with quaint stone houses and the surrounding water is crystal clear. In the evening the quiet, pretty harbor has fresh locally caught fish in the tavernas.

Kalamos

The main village of Kalamos is a sleepy harbor with a couple of shops and cafes which are all stocked by the ferry which visits daily from the mainland. Porto Leone on the south of the island is a must see anchorage, the long since abandoned village offers a fascinating glimpse into the past.

Kefalonia

Situated on a deep gulf, the harbor of Argostoli is one of the safest in the Mediterranean. Lixouri, located on the peninsula opposite, also has a good marina. One place that attracts virtually all sailors is Fiskardo, a fishing village-turned-international yachting centre, on the northernmost tip of the island. Another safe anchorage is Agia Efimia, to the east.

Ithaca

The kingdom of Odysseus. Directly opposite the northern shores of Kefalonia lies Ithaca, a high, narrow island indented with coves. The main harbour of Vathy lies at the back of a deep bay and could not be safer or more hospitable. A dramatically beautiful island, Ithaca is not as tourist-orientated as its bigger neighbors.. Bluer-than-blue waters surrounded by lush greenery await you.
